What is nano coating?

I received the following question from Jorik. This seemed like a good reason to devote a separate article to this.
I read a lot of positive reactions about treating Douglas wood with Care 102 Nanofluid. That's why I also ordered a bottle. I am actually curious about why this product works so well and what the active ingredients are. The term Nano is of course a nice sales term, but of course says nothing. Can you tell us a bit more about this and how this product differs from standard transparent stain?
Nano coating as a term
The term 'nano' may be more used for marketing the product than it is a correct description. I agree with your statement that says the news. I must say that it is an increasingly well-known term in popular speech that all refer to the same types of liquids. Don't take nano too literally. Nano refers to a unit that is very small (factor 10-9). See it more as a term that indicates how the fluid works.
Distinction between nano liquids and other protective products
What make the nano liquids unique is actually easy to explain by comparing it to a stain.
A stain is a layer that goes over the material in its entirety. For that reason the layer remains, in more, or
nano coating wood to a lesser extent, always visible. The nano fluids from ProFluid adhere around the wood fibers. They do not form a layer and they do not seal the surface. Due to the hydrophobic effect of the components the surface now repels everything with a high density (liquids and fats).
In practice, they often are silanes in the nano coatings & nano liquids that
act as an active ingredient. The correct composition and by-products determine how well the liquids work. So there is indeed a difference in the quality of different nano products. That is why we have decided within our production processes to work exclusively with ProFluid products.

In practice, nano liquids generally mean the following advantages over other products:
- 100% invisible after application
- Long-term protection without the need for repetition (depending on the product up to 5 years)
- Easy to apply due to low viscosity
- Extreme resistance to moisture due to hydrophobic properties
